Guest guest
Margee - Yes, but one can improve the ability of the heart to circulate the oxygenated cells through the body - which over time deteriorates unless you use it. Also, like athletes in training do, your body will make more red blood cells as well when they are required. Some athletes take drugs to increase their red blood cell count artificially because it gets mopre oxygen to their muscles - that's why the Russian cross coutry skier was disqualified as well as several other athletes at the recent olympics. It takes work to get the oxygen to the muscles and organs and yoga will help your body do this as will the deep breath that is required by the body when you are doing your practice. It all has to work together - moving your body/muscles, heart pumping deeply and long deep breaths. Also - In their daily lives most people do not breath properly because of chronic tension, weak muscles, poor posture and also the other factors we are familiar with - obesity and general inactivity - so... the blood cells do not ever even reach their capacity of oxygen. When you breathe fully and deeply they will reach capacity. It takes support to breathe properly and that takes practice and vigilance. It deteriorates over time unless you keep practicing or at least excercise a little every day (for some people this is a huge, huge hurdle) There are millions of red blood cells waiting to be filled with oxygen and it takes considerable effort to fill them all... rb
