Guest guest
I liked the series you linked to, but I have never seen it before in any tradition! I wonder where it came from? In the Hatha Yoga classes I attend, we consider this the (a) "moon salutation": Tadasana/mountain pose Transition: right knee to chest Vrksasana/tree pose Transition: knee back to chest, fold 1/2way forward into -- Virabhadrasana III/flying warrior Ardha Chandrasana/1/2 moon pose this variation: http://www2.gdi.net/~mjm/ardh.html Transition: back through Vira III into -- Pavritta Ardha Chandrasana/revolved 1/2 moon pose this variation: http://www.cuerpointeligente.com/Galeria%20FOTOS/images/fn43.jpg Transition: back to Vira III then bring left knee to chest and come to stand Vrksasana/tree pose Transition: knee to chest Tadasana Then repeat on other side, leading with left leg, opposite arm, etc... Here is a 'cute' link. It has a moving diagram: http://www.hathayogalesson.com/index.htm And this site has the moon salutation I am most familiar with: http://proliberty.com/pranayoga/ChandraNamaskar.html Om Shanti ... Guest guest
You know, I think we realize that there are many variations, etc...I just found some random link and threw it up for fun instead of pontificating about "chandra namaskar." I actually DO ashtanga yoga so that means I really don't do "moon salutations" in my practice anyway. It looks from your website that you don't do ashtanga any more but some other kind of thing - which is... whatever, cool. That's why I asked about the "certification" There are so many fools out there who offer "ashtanga teaching certifications" - it's sort of riduculous. I was mainly curious also because you seem to be giving a lot of advise that my teachers would never give. But good for you, 1985? You must know Nancy Gilgoff and David Williams and that whole bunch. fbl ashtangayoga, "yogini_shakti" <Yogini_Shakti> wrote: > MAYA wrote [[i liked the series you linked to, but I have never seen > it before in any tradition! Guest guest
I studied sivananda/satyananda yoga in the past, so i am very familiar with their surya and chandra namaskar. In ashtanga we have the surya A and B, in satyananda surya and chandra namaskar. Now the thing is that the posture in the middle of chandra namaskara resembles a lot of the virabhadrasana in ashtanga`s sun salutation B. You also do both sides, right side first and then left side, so i am sure there must be a connection somewhere betwen this northern form of yoga(satyananda/sivananda) and the southern (ashtanga). ashtangayoga, malsag <no_reply> wrote: > Check out funkybadlady's thinly-disguised scepticism! > > ashtangayoga, funkybadlady <no_reply> wrote: > > You know, I think we realize that there are many variations, > etc...I > > just found some random link and threw it up for fun instead of > > pontificating about "chandra namaskar." [[.. you seem to be giving a lot of advise that my teachers would never give.]] ** I am not you. Much of my biomechanical advice is tempered with a Ph.D in physical education. That, & 30+ years of Yoga experience. My perspective: I do not limit myself to one perspective when Yoga is such a lovely & diverse field in which to play & enjoy. Om Shanti ...
