Guest guest
Hi C Santiago - In my experience, ashtanga yogis can get neck pain from halasana and karnipidasana (among other asanas) when the neck "collapses." That is, eg., in these two asanas, when there is no space between the back of the neck and the floor. You can use a small rolled up towel to help support the neck in these positions, but I think it's better just to lift your chin/press the back of your head in to the floor as you move in to and hold the asana. This creates space behind the neck and doesn't let the cervical vertebrae collapse. If you are already doing those things mentioned above (ie., lifting your chin and pressing the back of your head gently in to the floor), then perhaps your neck needs to be strengthened. Sometimes, for example, I may push myself farther than my body is ready to go (ie., I'm not strong enough or flexible enough to go as far as my mind wants to), and then I strain a muscle or tendon or something... then I realize I have to back away and just let my body gradually strengthen and lengthen over time. Hope this makes sense. Namaste, Heathermarie Message: 1 Sat, 27 Jul 2002 16:31:53 -0300 "Santiago C" <santiago_c79 Karnapidasana My neck hurts a bit after doing Karnapidasana. Is it normal? Maybe I´m not using the correct mat ( I practice yoga over my living room carpet). Do I have to use a padding under the neck to do this posture? ______________________ ______________________ Your use of is subject to
