Guest guest
What a great topic! I am a computer geek myself... I recently made my way from the "dot-com" world to the "dot-org" world, but I feel like my days in front of the radiation box will need to come to an end eventually. I became a hatha yoga teacher to find some balance between both worlds. Once my teaching became more stable and more frequent, I imagined eventually phasing out the computer work and becoming a teacher full time. But teaching can be really hard on my body and draining -- I need to save some of that for my own practice -- so sometimes I wonder if being a full-time teacher will work for me. However, I know I also am drained because I am still working my other job full-time. I just don't know how to cut the cord and make the transition. So, anyway, I don't have your answer but am thinking the same thing so thought I'd mention where I'm at and hear what others are doing, too! om, elle >"johncarey01527" <john.carey >ashtanga yoga >ashtanga yoga >ashtanga yoga Views on becoming a Yoga Teacher >Fri, 02 Aug 2002 21:03:21 -0000 > >I'm interested on comments from people that have 'retired' from >corporate life and have become yoga teachers. > >Is it worth it? >Can a middle of the road western person with some eastern philosophy >do this? >What's the transition from part time practicer to full time teacher? > >JC > _______________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
Guest guest
You just do it gradually. It may take a year or more, before you feel confident enough in your new job to let go of the old. Sometimes events conspire to make the move sudden and dramatic, and employed people have no choice - its always overnight for them, but if you are self-employed you have the luxury of a gentle transition. I had a 25 year career as a journalist and now run a yoga centre. The yoga centre is seasonal and I thought I would 'dabble' at journalism during the monsoon - no such luck! I found it was impossible to pick up the same quality of work - the only commissions I could get were for dross work. Your old life will fade away, if that is what you want it to do!
