Guest guest
I've recently noticed that while doing the series of prasarita padottanasana, they are causing strain on my lower shin/ankle area. I cannot stand up without using my hands to assist. Also, the following day I feel as though I have sprained ankles. Is there something I can do to strenghten this muscle? Thank you in advance. Guest guest
perhaps you should not have your feet so far apart from one another. that may be causing strain. do you have a teacher? ashtangayoga, Dorene Nowatzke <dnowatzke> wrote: > I've recently noticed that while doing the series of > prasarita padottanasana, they are causing strain on my > lower shin/ankle area. Guest guest
Dorene Nowatzke, Another suggestion would be to strengthen the ankles and shins. Working with a teacher allows a qualified person to assess your asana, and evaluate ways to make it more comfortable. To strengthen your ankles, stand on something like a stair or curb, only the balls of your feet supporting you. Be careful to have a railing or object to support you, no falling. Drop your heels low, them stand up on the balls of your feet. Repeat this a few times. This action strengthens the ankles and shins. Before or after this practice work full the full range of motion available to your ankles. Make circles in clockwise and couter clockwise directions. Eacg asana is an expriment. Work to find a place where your body performs the asana...always recognize the differenr between pain and sensation. Never do anything that causes pain. Your ankles or shins may be weak form a previous injury, so take it slow. Do your practice and all it coming. ~Tonya Makowski Pacifica, California, USA
