Guest guest
Good for you !!! Just keep at it. One day at a time, one practice session at a time. Just go slow, breathe slow and then even slower and you will get into the positions easier. Don't rush anything. All will come. Try to adjust your diet to weight loss. More veg's, more salads, fruits, etc. It is true. Try to lower your carb intake. Stick to good carbs (fruits, veg) and stay away from the white breads, pasta's, sweets. Sweet potatoes instead of white, brown rice. And, if you can fit in a good 30 min. brisk walk daily you will see the weight start to come off. Slow is the word for both the weight loss and the ashtanga practice. Trust me, I am speaking from experience. I wish you the best and welcome to the world of ashtanga! Guest guest
Try a diet like eating only one item for a period of two/three days. Just apples, or a cooked rice. Guest guest
That's ridiculous. I've never heard such bad advice. Far better to have a balanced diet, just less quantity. If you try to deprive the body of the balance of nutrients it needs, it will just start craving and you'll end up eating more to try and find the missing elements. 'Just apples for two or three days' Really. :-/ Margee's advice is good, though, IMHO. ashtangayoga, pradeep kumar <palakkad_pdeep> wrote: > Try a diet like eating only one item for a period of > two/three days. Guest guest
This is not bad advice. Some people go on ten day diets of just eating one type of grain like barley, wheat etc. Its intensely heat producing and a tapas and gives a yang/solar shock to the body. I have done barley+basil leaves for three days. I have never felt better. Barley is MARS, so one feels like a warrior. Try veerabhadrasana after eating barley for three days. Of course if yoga is considered body building it's a different thing. Pradeep --- anniegurton <annie wrote: > That's ridiculous. Guest guest
I know many people who have gone on fasts for a week, 3 days, a month, etc. and it is not the way to long-term success with weight management. In order to do Ashtanga, especially in the beginning, you need energy. I still stick to my version of healthy eating in smaller amounts and slow long-term weight loss. The leaner you become the more energized you feel and the more successful at your practice you will be. What is IMHO?? Guest guest
One would have more energy if toxins are less in the body. Any type of detoxification done in small steps would increase body energy levels. Drinking turmeric/milk is a good thing i have heard but never tried on my own. There's a first time fear with anything, once that threshold is crossed with some pain, a new view will appear. All of the above IMHO (In my humble opinion) Pradeep - -- In ashtangayoga, "Gearhart, Margee" <mgearhart@s...> wrote: > I know many people who have gone on fasts for a week, 3 days, a month, etc. > and it is not the way to long-term success with weight management. Guest guest
I agree...the ten day brown rice "fast" is one of the backbones of macrobiotic healing...it clears away toxins & strengthens immunity on a physical level, and repolarizes one bioenergetically, giving a yang 'blast' & strengthening the solar chakra..don't have much experience w/other grains or astral correspondance of grains...but the barley/Mars connection sounds interesting... > This is not bad advice. Guest guest
But we were talking about weight loss, not cleansing! I stand by what I said: an unbalanced diet does not lead to long- term weight loss. You need to eat a bit of every food type, more of some than others, but generally less in quantity to achieve weight loss. ashtangayoga, dolcevita999 <no_reply> wrote: > I agree...the ten day brown rice "fast" is one of the backbones of > macrobiotic healing...it clears away toxins & strengthens > immunity on a physical level, and repolarizes one > bioenergetically, giving a yang 'blast' & strengthening the solar > chakra..don't have much experience w/other grains or astral > correspondance of grains...but the barley/Mars connection > sounds interesting... > > > > This is not bad advice. Guest guest
The below method will definitely help in weight loss. The TAPAS will bring about changes in our eating pattern automatically and the body will stop eating food which people just eat to satisy the sense of taste (I should say the acquired sense of taste).I remember when after i was on a diet, i went to cafe which also sold pizza pieces and ordered cheez pizza and after couple of bites i sensed that the cheez was too old and it was having a very foul smell for me, and stopped eating it. This is something i would have devoured if was in pre-TAPAS state. --- anniegurton <annie wrote: > But we were talking about weight loss, not > cleansing! > I stand by what I said: an unbalanced diet does not > lead to long- > term weight loss.
