Guest guest
.... attempting to pass on an advanced paranyama practice like nauli to an absolute beginner is one of the more irresponsible (although probably well-intentioned) things I've seen on here, possibly ever. Do NOT attempt Nauli, or other pranayama, without the instruction and guidance of a trusted, experienced teacher. PERIOD. Working on the Ujayi breathing during practice should be more than enough, for the first few months/years. Jennifer, do you know that Guruji hardly ever teaches pranayama, even to his most advanced students? I think nowadays you have to have completed Advanced A before he'll even consider it... For many- and good reasons which I won't go into here. And be careful, quoting from David and Sharon's book on an ashtanga board- they're an embarassment to a lot of us here in NY, and in the ashtanga community at large. Sorry. Guest guest
DEFINITELY well intentioned. my sincere apologies to zeke7 and tinazym and anyone else who checked out my post where i described the nauli practice. i should definitely have said 'find a good teacher to show you this.' i have a great teacher who i trust implicitly who shows this practice to dead beginners, and in my own experience with my own body (which i have also learned to trust) i do not find it to be anything but beneficial. but again, get someone trustworthy and experienced to show you. just like no one should recommend learning ashtanga from a video, i shouldn't have recommended doing nauli based on my written description of it. if you thought my quoting of the jivamukti book was an embarassment, well, like i said i'm reading it now and i don't have any preconceived notions about the jivamukti folks. i form my own opinions and, as with everything i take from it what seems true to me and reject what doesn't. the quote that i shared seemed interesting, true, and relevant. and i'm not embarassed in the least by not being 'in'. -jennifer
