You are welcome. The training at It's Yoga offers only a basic

knowledge of Ashtanga Yoga, certifing the person upon completetion to

teach "ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA" to beginners at a beginner level. We

learned a "modified primary series" that enables beginners to

practice poses that build strength, and concentration enabling them

to work the more advance postures found in the primary and above

poesture series. I think it forms a fine knowledge base both for

ones personal practice as well as to help a "newbie" find the

practice of Ashtanga for themselves. I have helped many people

explore Ashtanga yoga, deepen their practice and find that stillness

of mind that yoga helps achieve, and for that I am greatful.

Ok. All this stuff about modifying......

First a new student should just start out with doing the sun

salutations. Build those FIRST. Then add standing poses one at a

time. None of this skipping poses and all of that stuff. Just take it

slow. I think that it is wrong to tell people to tell people to do

the whole thing and modify. They are much better off starting with

less poses and actually learning them correctly.

If 'ashtang' as a word is what you choose not to get trapped in, then

why another word 'rajyog' ???

-regards.

PS: words remains easiest way to to 'vikalpa'

an old word that means "Eight Limbs". So wouldn't it be correct for

anyone teaching Patanjali's Eight Limb philosophy to call it

Ashtanga?

technically apply to them. And it can be misleading to people that

want to learn about it. But it seems to me that the word Ashtanga

could be used for all Raja yoga.
