There are a couple of things that I am hoping someone can answer for me. I do

not have experience practicing Ashtanga Yoga and I am not in a class, so I

cannot ask a teacher.

I am practicing daily Sun Salutions for the time, and will wait until I am in a

good class with a good teacher before attempting to move forward into the

series. But there are two questions that I am concerned about.

1) An old wrist injury makes it painful for me to bend my left wrist far enough

to put my hand flat on the floor, especially if I am bearing my weight, such as

in downward dog. I would like to know the best way to modify this, as I have no

choice, I cannot do it with my hand flat without hurting my wrist. I have been

using my knuckles or fingertips instead to allow my wrist to remain straight,

and would like to know if one or the other is better or if it matters.

2) Also, I don't know if it's safe to attempt Bandha practice without the

guidance of a teacher. I get the impression that Mulabandha is fine to attempt

on one's own. But what about the other Bandhas?

Thank you,

Asha

Dear Asha,

Both the questions have one answer.

Ans: TEACHER.

I also acknowledge your honesty and sincerity. I or any other teacher

can give load of 'text information' , but such things don't help in

real experience.

Let me share some thing beautiful and encouraging. In olded days the

practices were corrected by one's own self 'listening' to the body.

No asana or exercise rules are so 'heavenly' that teacher is

indespensible. Well, if one can be little quiet, littel logical and

learn how to 'lesten' to one's own body, actually teacher

is 'becomming'

Try the later technique first, may be with God's grace teacher will

be found in one's own self.
