Guest guest
The Ashtanga yoga referred to here is a very specific practice of yoga taught by Pattabhi Jois that includes an asana practice with a very clear method. Anyone who promotes or practices something that is not following this method is doing another kind of yoga and will not reap the very credible benefits reaped by those who study and practice the correct method of ashtanga. "Modified" poses are ONLY taught to people with serious disabilities, pregnant women (only marichyasana C & D are actually modified) very old and infirm people. All the rest of you are capable of doing the correct method and anyone who tells you otherwise is full of crap. Do any kind of yoga you want but understand that even the slightest deviation from the correct method is not the method at all. This is not an opinion, it is a fact. So do a "modified" version of yoga if you want, it's not a moral issue. Just realize that it is not the Ashtanga that is spoken of here and if it is Ashtanga you aspire to do, the you are getting gypped by some charlatan teacher who wants to make a buck off of you by satisfying your ego and not teaching you correctly - you have to wait till you can do a pose correctly before you move on. I don't know what all this crap is about "elitism" and "snobbery" - don't be ridiculous. If you are doing a "modified" series then you are doing some other thing. Just follow the rules! What's the problem with that? That's not elitism, it's common wisdom. FBL
Guest guest
you know, i know and we all know here that 'its yoga' is not ashtanga as taught by jois...all im saying is that theres no need to be rude when explaining this to someone else...simple! in my experience things said in a friendly manner tend to go in one ear and stay there. elitism and snobberry is when you feel the need to be rude and insulting when explaining to others. ashtangayoga, funkybadlady <no_reply> wrote: > The Ashtanga yoga referred to here is a very specific practice of > yoga taught by Pattabhi Jois that includes an asana practice with > a very clear method.
