In the Northern hemisphere we have the melancholy of fall with the changing colours of the leaves, the crisp nip of the air in the mornings that seem to prepare us for the turning inward of winter, a time of deep reflection and examination of choices we have made and possible new directions to consider. The tragedies that beset the world loom larger at this time of year, the time of honouring and remembering the losses seem especially poignant as Nature sheds the bloom of summer. In the spirit of the reflection of the season, Yuanwu is a bit of a taskmaster himself asking us to take a hard look not only at the circumstances around us, but at our own interiors. When he says, ‘Don't bat around your clean little ball of inner mystical experience,’ he reminds us not to get too lost in our inner states, understandings, and not to lose our sense of participation in the whole, to be ‘mindful of saving all beings.’ Come visit with him now: http://www.dailyzen.com/journal.asp May the beauty of the season help to lift us beyond our small views to the vastness of forgiveness and the inspiration to continue along the Way. The bartender points to a sign which reads "We don't serve strings here" and kicks the string out. The string leaves, goes to the nearest gas station, sticks an air hose in his mouth, puffs himself up, and goes back into the bar. The bartender, recognizing the skinny imitation of a piece of rope, tosses him out again. Now desperate for a beer, the string goes onto the back alley, completely messes up his hair, and using every bit of yoga training he has ever had, contorts his body into an unrecognizable tangled mass, then rolls himself back into the bar. Bartender looks at him with a raised eyebrow and says, "Aren't you that piece of string that's been in here twice today already?" String looks up and says... ready... here it comes... "No, I'm afraid not." Have you got any better yoga jokes? If so, please send them to us! THAT’s ALL FOLKS – Thanks to all those who have emailed saying how much they enjoy this service. This Noticeboard now goes to over 2,700 recipients throughout the global yoga community.
