Guest guest
You said it sister! I agree wholeheartedly about the less than yoga-like attitude of some of the people on this forum. Thus far I have refrained from commenting and kept any comments I have made to my own experience; in keeping with that I can tell you that there are many many wonderful people in the Ashtanga community. When I was just starting out they welcomed me with open arms and no judgement whatsoever (it was not that long ago). I have been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively and praciced in studios in Moscow, London, Washington DC, and of course NYC (my home)....most people are truly lovely and practice all eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga. As with anything in life there are bound to be a few people with whom you do not get along or rub you the wrong way. Yoga has taught me to not get upset with these people, but to practice tolerance and compassion. I do not agree with the email you refer to and if I let it, it will upset me the same way that it has upset you. Do not let this happend; when you let one person get to you in this way you do yourself a disservice. I truly wish that everyone in this world would learn to be tolerant and commassionate with each other; whatever "style" of yoga that they practice. Until that time, all I can do is become the embodiment of that sentiment and in one small way hopefully add something positive to this world. I wish the same for all of you. Om Shanti. --- Asha <ashakiran0 wrote: > > > funkybadlady wrote: > If you want a > more "user-friendly" form of yoga, then teach > Kripalu or some > other such drivel. > > > > > This is just one example in many of "teachers" on > this board who seem to only grasp asana and know > nothing about the actual philosophy of yoga. Guest guest
HI Astanga Yogi/Yoginis Any ideas on what asana's to do to prepare for a Handstand workshop?\ Also, to Asha- I find this forum very entertaining - I have been laughing with all of my fellow Yogi/Yoginis aboout some of the "attitude" I try to see the god/goddess in everyone - sometimes it is hard when some people or so stuck in a certain grooves. I guess we all heve different degrees of spiritual awareness, maybe some are just trying to get over an ego fed feeling of being inferior. Asha wrote: funkybadlady wrote: If you want a more "user-friendly" form of yoga, then teach Kripalu or some other such drivel. This is just one example in many of "teachers" on this board who seem to only grasp asana and know nothing about the actual philosophy of yoga. I would NEVER return to a yoga class if my teacher refered to a different school of yoga as "drivel". Making remarks like that is not only negative but completely counter to the spirit of yoga. I was attracted to Ashtanga yoga for two reasons: One, it is very challenging. And Two - the biggest reason - it is SUPPOSED to be based on all eight limbs of yoga. I thought I would get a more well-rounded training and further learn the philosophy, the spirit, what yoga is all about. After being on this mailing list for just a few weeks - if the "teachers" on this list are a reliable sample of the Ashtanga community- I'm beginning to rethink my interest in Ashtanga. I want to hear about why the practice is good, how it has enriched people's lives, discussion of practice, etc. I DO NOT want to hear about why everyone besides a few "teachers" on this forum are stupid and wrong and ridiculous. Recently someone voiced interest in having a teacher from this list do a workshop at their studio. The teacher's only reply was the amount that it would cost. I was appalled. Of COURSE you would expect compensation for your time and efforts. But I cannot think of a colder, less friendly, less open way to reply to anyone that is showing genuine interest in learning from your knowledge and experience. I do realize that there are many wonderful and caring people on this list. However, it seems the people that want to be negative are doing the majority of the posting. I get upset by this list almost daily. Not so much because of the hostility but because the targets of that hostility, in my opinion, have never deserved it. It seems the nicest, most open hearted people are the ones that receive the slander. So thank you to all that have had a kind word. I think I'll be unsubscribing from this list after I send this email. Guest guest
Dear Asha, It seems you forget how to do senseofhumorasana, one that many forget when they begin taking themselves too seriously. Another side effect of doing handstands before one is ready. My opinions have nothing to do with the way you choose to practice yoga... or do they?
