Guest guest
Perizada: I don't pretend to have "the" answer -but it is my impression that Power Yoga incorporates some of the Ashtanga Yoga asanas and shortens the period of time each posture is held (i.e. speeds up the pace) in order to increase one's heart rate throughout the practice. In addition, practioners of Power Yoga aren't as focused on perfecting the asanas as Ashtanga practioners are. just my two cents Maureen --- KHe7752755 wrote: > hi everybody > > can anyone tell me exactly what the difference is > between power yoga and > ashtanga yoga? i can't remember where i read it, > but i got the impression > that the two yogas are the same except power yoga is > a bit different from > ashtanga. thanks perizada > > Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos & More http://faith. Guest guest
Hi Jean, I suggest you get the book 'power yoga' by beryl bender birch and read through it. The anSwer to youR question in there. Please do not get influenced by the answer given cause this is not true neIther fair to put a good teacher down in this manner. I have read beryl's books and found it extermely informative and helpful toward my own practice. Beryl might not be doing all the postures but that means nothing. All postures are no requirement to a good and authentic practice. Ashtanga and power yoga are one and the same. The reason it is called power yoga is because it calls in on the power we all have within us to help us in what ever or wherever it is we would like to move towards. Once again do kindly read her book you will sure enjoy it. --- "jean-marie herve michel, jr" <abulafia3000 wrote: I found a 'modern' ashtanga teacher. His name is Russell Kai. Guest guest
Hi Jean, Dolly I strongly disagree that Power Yoga and Ashtanga means the same thing. Beryl described the rimary series in her book titled Power Yoga. 1. The book is 8 years old and after the print people used the terms in different ways. 2. There are Brian Kest and Baron Baptist that title their Yoga as " Power Yoga" and it is NOT Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. For me Power Yoga is a term with several different definition so it is wise not to use the terminology. Guest guest
Hi! They are not one and the same. If you ask someone who does traditional ashtanga, what they do, they will not say power yoga. If you are curious as to what is the difference then try to go somewhere that offers traditional ashtanga and observe. They are 6 series in Ashtanga Yoga. The series are exact and specific. Guest guest
Surely, that is one of the key differences between Power Yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga - the latter follows a strict sequence developed with great knowledge and technical skill and there is only one path, while 'power yoga' is any personal variation, adaptation and modification. The only similarity, IMHO, is that both use heat, but then so does Bikram.
