Guest guest
Hi Diane, I am new here, too. David Swenson's Primary Series tape was my introduction to Ashtanga. I had just bought Beryl Bender Birch's Power Yoga book, but hadn't read it yet. My friend showed it to me and the next time I went to his house we watched it again and did the tape. I had been reading the Power Yoga book and was doing Surya Namaskara and part of the standing. When we got to the part of the series I hadn't tried yet I got lost and we quit soon after that. I ordered his book as soon as I knew it existed. I got the Primary Series tape and his Short Forms tape a little after that. I really love the tapes and got a lot out of them, but I prefer practicing with the book. I am certain I get some of the vinyasa wrong and don't do all of them anyway, just enough to keep the sweat going and to reset the body before going on to a set of Asanas that have a different theme. When I have time and the energy, I do a vinyasa between each Asana. I still do the tape with my friend and at home, but not every time I do the series. I learn something new from it each time I watch it. I have never had the opportunity to go to a class. So, I think that with your experience in classes you should be able to build a really good practice around the tapes and the book you already have. I will be buying more tapes/DVDs and books in the near future. I want to get Beryl Bender Birch's Power Yoga DVD. Has anyone seen it? What do you thing about it? Any other favorites?
