Guest guest
Good Morning All.... A friend of mine who i practice with has hyper extended knees and in some of the standing postures, like trikonasana she really feels pain and tension in her knees, but we are not sure if she should bend them a bit or not...any advice? also, another lady asked me about her shoulders. they are very prone to dislocating due to being 'very loose and open'. not sure what to tell her either, especially in postures like prasarita paddotanasa c and Marichyasana III and backbending. any thoughts are greatly appreciated. cheers RC Mail Plus - Powerful. Guest guest
Hi, All my instructors have been consistent in advising against hyper extending anything. Bending your knees (or whatever else) slightly seems to always be preferable. Can't really comment on the shoulders apart from the obvious advise-not to push it. A medical opinion from a qualified person would seem a safe bet on that one. Cheers, Lawrence. --- Rock Chick <rokchik666 wrote: > > Good Morning All.... > > A friend of mine who i practice with has hyper > extended knees and in some of the standing postures, > like trikonasana she really feels pain and tension > in > her knees, but we are not sure if she should bend > them > a bit or not...any advice? > > also, another lady asked me about her shoulders. > they > are very prone to dislocating due to being 'very > loose > and open'. not sure what to tell her either, > especially in postures like prasarita paddotanasa c > and Marichyasana III and backbending. > > any thoughts are greatly appreciated. > > cheers > RC > > > > Mail Plus - Powerful. Guest guest
I agree, Bend your knees, do what it takes not to injure them. Injury is a waste of time you could spend practicing. I would be interested to know what Funkybadlady thinks of taping weak joints. I sometimes use a wrist band and sometimes a band for my right knee which feels open some ways and weak in others. I never hurts. By all means both ladies should seek medical advice if they haven't aready. It would be great if they could see someone that was interested in and practiced some yoga themselves. I wonder if Surya Namaskara wouldn't strengthen her sholders. How does she feel when she does them?
