Guest guest
this is a magnificent question which could provide reams of responses from all. Richard freeman says that mulabandha is subtle, but when Patabhi Jois gives instruction he says, "contract your anus" in a booming command. One thing I know for certain is that over time, the asanas cultivate the body's ability to perform mulabanda, and that mulabanda perfects the asanas. --- oceanchild98 <no_reply> wrote: > I am a beginner in Ashtanga. Guest guest
I agree with Lori 100 percent. Also, my experience with mulabandha has been that the only way to start is by contracting the anus on exhalations without trying to fine tune it or try super-squeezes. Slowly you begin to become aware of the pelvic floor automatically and you begin to feel its relationship to asanas and breathing. Also, I think mulabandha and Uddiyana bandha complement each other. I think Uddiyana bandha completes the lift (of the pelvic area) that starts at the pelvic floor using mulabandha. For me, both became stronger together. I would like to hear from others if Uddiyana indeed is how I have come to percieve it. I only recently started to deeply feel these two bandhas and I am still experimenting and quite amazed! Thanks and Regards everyone.... ashtanga yoga, Lori Salomon <namosalomon> wrote: > this is a magnificent question which could provide > reams of responses from all. Guest guest
Hello All, Regarding: "I only recently started to deeply feel these two bandhas and I am still experimenting and quite amazed! " I also started to feel those two bandas (1 year of intensive training & life experience.) and agree with your idea about it. Moreover while feeling those two bundhas I think that a new stage is starting in the new stage the movement is from inner to outside, which is much better position in compare of the feeling while starting the Yoga process. But I also just started with it so I can not express better ideas besides of my feeling of starting a new stage with a new attitude. But I have additional question: In the end of our glorious feelings ("contract your anus" indeed as a one way ticket) there is a body & I heard about availability of exact explanations of those bundhas from the body perspective (clear musles, etc). Do you know on presentation, etc that explain those above the feelings? Thanks and regards, Yaniv sage----- SalsaSpirit [no_reply] Monday, March 03, 2003 7:49 PM ashtanga yoga Re: ashtanga yoga bandhas I agree with Lori 100 percent. Guest guest
Learning to work with the Bandha's can take years of practice. But when you do begin to feel what is happening it is incredible. A similar thing happens with Pranayam. When your lungs become more toned, and fit and you're stronger in your practice, there are times you feel so light it is as though you were floating through your practice like a feather. And I suddenly realized what my teacher meant by feeling light in the pose. But, the first time I experienced it, I didn't recognize it for what it was and thought I was becoming light headed. It was awesome and still is when it happens. There's also some good info here on the Bandha's. http://www.yogabound.com/mudra's_&_bandha's.htm --- SalsaSpirit <no_reply> wrote: > I agree with Lori 100 percent. > > Also, my experience with mulabandha has been that > the only way to > start is by contracting the anus on exhalations > without trying to > fine tune it or try super-squeezes.
