Guest guest Posted March 17, 2003 Report Share Posted March 17, 2003 Miguel, I have been doing Ashstanga for almost a year and it seems to me that you perhaps may need to check with your doctor to see if you are hypertensive. What you are describing are the symptoms of elevated blood pressure. All inverted postures in yoga elevate your blood pressure. If you are hypertensive, then it is not reccommended that you perform these asanas. So I woke up today and measured my blood pressure, and as I expected it was kinda low, but still withing the healthy range, I beliece: 96/58 and 49bpm. I gave a bit of thought to this and what I believe could be the reason for my discomfort and nose bleed is that, as I was in sirsasana, my veins enlarged, and so I ruptured a vein in my nose (they are very sensitive). As for my light headedness and weakness for a short while, I believe it was due to the after exercise, where the heart returned to normal but the veins were still large, so the blood evacuated too fast from the brain, thus causinga short supply of nutrients/oxygen to the brain. Please comment on this and if you can, tell me some solutions to the problem! I was a bit aprehensive on doing a head stand I was afraid it would bleed. I practicy my Yoga routine that was not ashtanga but the headstand and shoulder stand would be in the routine and after a while my nose bleeding problem. My guess is that by doing sirsasana it strngthen the blood vessel around the nose. I would guess that if you keep doing the head stand the bleeding would disapear but you are the one to tell if the pose is approprite. How long did it take for the bleeding to disappear?
