first steps in astanga

Hello to all the astanga yoga community!

I have a question. Just started a beguiners course in astanga yoga

institute in Helsinki, taking place once a week. But I am still

totally out of shape. In result after trying mt first steps in asanas

my body, specially back, hurts a litlle, I mean I feel the muscles

sore.

I would like to receive advices in how to improve, best books, etc,

and if its wise to try bymyself at home. Also am just trying to

change my sedentary lifestyle full of bad habits, like smoking for

example.
