Guest guest
I have been praticing ashtanga yoga for 11 plus years. I would like to say that after 11 years I am still finding new ways to have a tall spine and a lifted chest, and to completely engage the whole spine and the bandhas in up dog. the last couple of weeks I have been playing with keeping my chin level (rather than throwing the head back) in up dog as well as backbends. this is not a permanent change is is and exploration. When I focus on drawing the hyoid bone back (in a gentle way) and keeping the gaze straight foward, i find much more lift and opening in the chest. then when I finally add the head the neck feels much more stable and less compressesd.Teachers of other styles use this technique, just not something you would commonly practise in a traditional ashtanga class. My advice, for what its worth, is to be very cautious with neck issues. I know many ashtangis, myself included, that often deal with sore necks and pain in upper back. my work with up dog in this way has been very stabilizing and healing for my neck --- tramo1973 <tramo1973 wrote: > when coming into the upward dog i seem to be > experiencing a > cramp in my neck. how can i ease the cramping or > stop it all > together. when coming in to the pose i always make > sure that my > spine is long but i still have the cramping. > > > The New Search - Faster.
