Guest guest
I'm writing a magazine article that explores whether youga is turning into a physical pursuit, without the spiritual or mental component. Since ashtanga yoga/power yoga has the reputation for being a physically demanding practice, I wanted to get your thoughts on this issue. Is the physical aspect what you most value? What do you perceive to be the mental and spiritual benefits of this practice? Please email me directly if you would like to share your thoughts. It's changed my life for the better. I feel better, look better (my wife tells me), stand straighter, have lost weight, etc. I have a little problem answering your questions because, as an Episcopal priest, I have a fulfilling spiritual practice, but I just wanted to comment that I find it difficult to make the distinction. If my body is better, my spirit is better. If I breathe better, I am "inhaling spirit." If I stand straighter because of being more physically fit, I have a better attitude toward others and toward my life, and have more energy. So I suppose the answer is an equivocal "yes."
