Guest guest
You are just going through the normal phase. It normally happens in the beginning that the mind wanders all over. Just don't get frustrated over it. We tend to try to do everything perfectly form the beginning but forget about the main quality of yoga. Patience. With yourself and others. The focus will come in time (perhaps when you stop stressing over it. Yoga is a journey not a goal. Being good to yourself is a part of it. namaste, jana On Monday, August 4, 2003, at 07:25 PM, jack2b2003 wrote: > I am seeking some advice. Guest guest
Jeff: Based on my experience, your focus will continue to improve -although it was and still is, the most difficult part of my practice. Sometimes I think the only thing keeping me focused is the difficulty of the poses -which is perhaps why, Ashtanga is so physically demanding. At any rate, I would advise you not to close your eyes during practice -one would think that this would keep you focused -it has been my experience that it increases your "monkey" mind and makes it even more difficult to concentrate. The dristis are there for a reason, I would definitely use them to continue to refine your focus. Namaste, Maureen --- jack2b2003 <jack2b2003 wrote: > I am seeking some advice. Guest guest
Focus on the breath. Ujaii breathing will bring your mind back to focus. But don't be too hard on yourself, almost everyone has to fight the urge to let the "to do" list go while practicing! Namaste. jack2b2003 <jack2b2003 wrote:I am seeking some advice. I have a hard time focusing on keeping my attention on the poses and have the tendency to drift off for literally half the practice. My goal is to try to stay focused on an object in my house (like the flame on a candle), or different scenery, or trying to clear my mind by closing my eyes. Or am I just going through a normal phase? Thanks Jeff ashtanga yoga
