NOTICEBOARD of YOGA COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS and NEWSLETTER with the compliments

of PURPLE VALLEY DROP-IN YOGA CENTRE AND RETREAT, GOA (www.yogagoa.com) where

Ashtanga Vinyasa enthusiasts and friends gather to practise, learn, teach, chat

and relax.

PURPLE VALLEY NEWSLETTER:

Spend Christmas and New Year with Lucy and John Scott at Purple Valley Retreat,

Goa at the first workshop at our new Retreat location. Go to www.yogagoa.com to

book. Only 12 residential places left.

Flights to Goa are already getting booked up for the next season, particularly

the charters which are the cheapest and most convenient way to get there and fly

direct from Europe to Goa non-stop. The alternatives are the scheduled flights

which fly to Mumbai or elsewhere, and require a connecting internal flight,

train or coach journey.

Specialist European/Goa charter companies are GoAway (www.goaway.co.uk) and

Jewel In The Crown Holidays (www.jewelholidays.com) Another recommended web

site for air flights is www.grabaflight.com or www.lastminute.com

American students often find that the best way to get to Goa is to fly to Europe

on a scheduled flight and then connect with a charter going direct from Europe

to Goa.

But however you get there the message is clear: Book soon to get the cheapest

seats: They don’t get cheaper nearer the time, in fact the number of charter

seats does not meet demand. Of course you can always get scheduled seats right

up to the day of travel, but they will, by then, be more expensive.

"Ashtanga, NY" Film Screenings On September 1, 2001, the master of Ashtanga

Yoga, Pattabhi "Guruji" Jois traveled to New York City with his family to teach

a one-month workshop. Ashtanga students from all over the world gathered in

lower Manhattan to attend his classes. Since Guruji and his family arrived ten

days before, they experienced September 11 as New Yorkers and were as horrified

as anyone else. But rather than freeze in the face of tragedy, Guruji continued

teaching. Though much more subdued, his demeanor and practices took on

heightened importance in the days after the attacks, bringing calm to his

followers in a trying time. "Ashtanga, NY" is an inspirational film that

documents a poignant period in many New Yorkers' lives. Directors Caroline

Laskow and Mary Wigmore balance Ashtanga yoga's spiritual significance with its

effect on the busy lives of New Yorkers and remind us that yoga is not just an

aerobics trend, it is a spiritual experience intended to bring s!

olace to the mind and soul as much as to the body. For information and future

screenings, email ashtangafilm. See also www.ayri.org/projects.html

for screening updates. Upcoming Screenings: Indiefest Chicago - August 4th

Santa Barbara Museum of Art - August 22nd

San Francisco World Film Festival - October 23-25th
