There's a place in Brooklyn called Yoga People that has Mysore-style Ashtanga

classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 6:30-9:30 AM. They

also offer a Mysore class on Sundays from 8:00-10:00 AM. On Tuesdays and

Thursdays the Mysore room is open for self practice, according to their Web

site.

 

I don't know anyone who has practiced there, so I don't know what their

reputation is. Most Brooklyn residents I know just hop the train to Manhattan

and

practice at one of the shalas there. But if you're interested in Yoga People

My boyfriend has just started teaching at a new place

called the Yoga Lab on Atlantic Avenue b/w Hoyt and

Bond Streets. He is teaching tues/thurs where tues is

a beginners led class and thursday is pretty much a

mysore class; he will be expanding the schedule as he

gets more students since the Yoga Lab just openned

last week, and may even have daily AM Mysore practice

eventually if the demand exists. Currently both tues

and thurs classes are at 6pm. He is an excellent

teacher who has been practicing for many years and

studying with Lino Miele in Europe as well as with

Guruji in India (we just got back from six months in

India actually)...otherwise, there is Yoga People in

Brooklyn Heights, which has four days a week Mysore

(M/W/F and Sunday) with several different teacher

depending on the day. I have been there twice and

really liked one of the teachers quite a lot.

Otherwise, I believe Area Yoga on Smith Street in

Cobble Hill has some led primary classes but I am not

sure of their schedule; I took a vinyasa class there

when I was confined to Brooklyn during the blackout

and it was quite good.
