Hello Everyone. I'm searching for someone who has either been to

Mysore and studied under Guruji or is planning to go. I have a trip

to India planned for the early months of '04 but have never been and

am looking for some words of wisdom or advice on what to expect in

Mysore. I have a well established Ashtanga practice but I'm still

very much learning - I'm wondering if there actually are students at

my level in Mysore or if it's only the most advanced. I've been told

there are many people on this site that could speak with me about

this. Hope you are all well and happy. Namaste.

I went to Mysore in 2002 during the final days of the old shala. My

experience was that there were all levels of practitioners and it

just doesn't matter how advanced you are-- you will receive the same

care and respect from Guruji and Sharath at any level. I have a

pretty mediocre primary series practice, certainly not what I would

call "advanced" and I simply did my practice to the best of my

ability. That is really all they expect. Guruji and Sharath are very

sweet and I have heard many times that they really like working with

beginners. Have a wonderful time. Don't forget your bug spray, pack

light. Take yoga clothes with you, buy daily wear clothes when you

get there and pack empty bags to take things home. Get your shots

and find a good bug repellent for the mosquitoes. Don't pet the

monkeys. Or the dogs. Watch out for charging Brahmin Bulls. That is

about all I can think of right now.

While in India, you could also visit Purple Valley in Goa. Not

Mysore, but all levels of practice and experience, good teaching,

nice beaches. More info at www.yogagoa.com

(with apologies to everyone else sick to death of hearing about

Purple Valley!)

There is another Ashtanga message board here:

http://pub42.ezboard.com/byoga84291

And there is a whole separate forum there just for discussion of

Mysore: http://pub42.ezboard.com/fyoga84291frm12

Tons to read there and lots of people will be happy to answer

questions.
