Guest guest
Guruji counts to 5 breaths, today that is. If you can get a hold of the DVD Ashtanga NY, you can see Guruji teaching. Just do what you body is telling you what to do. Some poses I'm in for 5 breaths, some 7 to 10 some up to 20 or 25. I just listen to my body during practice. --- lu_38_de <no_reply> wrote: > Hello, > some days ago we discussed the correct way of > breathing. Guest guest
Do not do "just what your body tells you to do" -what does that mean? So many new-age types love to say this rhetoric but it means nothing to most people. Only a teacher can tell you how many breaths you should be taking. The standard practice is five. It is important to be consistent with the number of breaths in each pose. There are ocassions when this might change with injuries or pther physical problems, but you should do five breaths until you get a teacher. Finishing poses are different - more breaths. Get a teacher. Guest guest
5 breaths could go fast, they also could go slowly. 5 breaths could be 5 seconds, they also could be 50 seconds. 5 breaths doesn't say nothing. Its about the speed you are breathing in my opinion. But what is the right speed, the Swenson-speed with 100 miles per hour or the speed of growing like a flower? May be it is the Chalandara Bandha that gives us the key for the speed and the ujjayi breathing. Guest guest
Obviously you didn't read Yoga Mala very closely. On almost every asana it says "rechaka and puraka as much as possible". Now that I think about it, Yoga Mala was not originally written in English. It would be interesting for a scholar of the original language to look at the original and explain any possible nuances or possible different interpretations for what Pattabhi originally wrote. andrew ______________________ _ Andrew Bartelt | 281-236-9522 | ABartelt | YOGAndrew.com | ABcomputerSolutions.com lu_38_de [no_reply] Thursday, November 13, 2003 12:45 AM ashtanga yoga Re: ashtanga yoga correct breathing (1-2-3-4-5) - Are you sure that this was in Yoga Mala and not in Light on Yoga?
