Guest guest
Andre: Practicing Ashtanga yoga will definitely increase your strength and if you practice consistently -you can forget about lifting weights. Just to give you some proof, I've attached a photo of myself -my exercise is limited to Ashtanga Yoga, cycling and running. Hope this helps, Maureen andre78704 <aet wrote: Question for y'all. I race bicycles as my main physical outlet. i am currently lifting weights because my body has gotten hideously out of balance (all strength in the legs, none in upper body or middle). after i toughen up with the weights, i was considering taking up ashtanga yoga because i have heard that it can make you stronger along with its other benefits. is this true? i really would like to maintain a fairly strong body. thanks, andre ashtanga yoga
Guest guest
yes. strength is a main component of ashtanga but it's inner strength. if I were a racer I would prefer to have that kind of strength rather than risk adding bulk with weights. One of my clients races and loves yoga for that reason and also for the relaxing aspect of it. the strength you will gain from the ashtanga practice will be to be able to lift your own body weight which will help your speed and stamina tremendously. Be aware to not overdo it. The approach with yoga is much lighter than what most sports ask of the athlete. andre78704 <aet wrote:Question for y'all.
