Guest guest
Kunal, I would never reccommend anyone to struggle into an asana. Push yourself as far as you can as long as you can still breathe ujayii breath. There are several different variations of all asanas that you can do until you have the strength, balance, or focus to do the asana. If you are forcing yourself into things that you arent ready for, then yoga becomes more like boot camp than an internal practice. It is always ok to skip an asana or vinyasa as long as your remain in ujayii breath. As with any practice, it can take time to "master" the primary series... although I would say that one can never actually master yoga, you can always take a pose further. I was not very flexible at all when I first began ashtanga yoga, but little by little you quickly notice that changing. We have some people in class who have no flexibility and definately cant touch their toes, then we have others who are incrediably flexible. As to your headache question... I personally have not heard of that as some sort of purging effect. My best guess would be that you are not breathing correctly, but thats just an assumption. Guest guest
Stay with the practice and do what you can. Although I was very fit from other activities, I could not do full Vinyasas when I began my practice of 1 class /week. I increased my practice to 2 times per week and could finally do a vinyasa in between each asana. I increased my practice to 4 times a week and opened up my hips, gained strength in my upper body and saw tremendous improivements. My body has changed, my eating has changed and I am more focused and able to meditate. I didn't get the headaches, though. Stay focused and be in the journey. It's not about the perfect posture. Would like to have some tips about you people on how to approach Ashtanga: 1. After practicing, I feel some headache. Is this normal?...some kind of early purging effects? 2. What do u recommend somebody to do when they cant get into an Asana....skip it or struggle thru it even though it might disrupt vinayasa? 3. Did you people take some time to master the primary series or were u already very flexible when u started?
