Guest guest
Good morning (it's morning somewhere right?), I've taken a beginner's ashtanga class at Yoga On High in Columbus OH and will take a full series class next term. I'm wondering two things, how does one build up a daily practice? The full series is too much and so I do as much as I can each day. Does anyone have a recommendation here? Also, I've been an runner, swimmer and biker for many years, is this type of activity counter productive in any way from an ashtanga point of view? Guest guest
astanga is traditionally learned one pose at a time. Meaning when you are fairly proficient at a pose you go on to the next. This may happen in one practice or after weeks of practice. I would learn the sun salutes and practice those till they are memorized and you are proficient. Than I would add one pose, memorize it and get comfortable with it, than add another one. You should do a modified closing(maybe last three postures of the entire primary sequence). Beryl Binder Birch's book, Power Yoga is really good for getting started. She also talks about how athletic activities such as bikeing and running effect your body and your practice. ashtanga yoga, "Mark Bonneville" <mlb3820> wrote: > Good morning (it's morning somewhere right?), > > I've taken a beginner's ashtanga class at Yoga On High in Columbus OH > and will take a full series class next term.
