astanga is traditionally learned one pose at a time. Meaning when

you are fairly proficient at a pose you go on to the next. This

may happen in one practice or after weeks of practice. I would

learn the sun salutes and practice those till they are memorized and

you are proficient. Than I would add one pose, memorize it and get

comfortable with it, than add another one. You should do a modified

closing(maybe last three postures of the entire primary sequence).

Beryl Binder Birch's book, Power Yoga is really good for getting

started. She also talks about how athletic activities such as

bikeing and running effect your body and your practice.
