Guest guest
keajra_bound I have wrestled with mild/ moderate depression for about twenty years. I have been doing yoga for five or six and the yoga has been a huge blessing but is very powerful. One thing my teacher pointed out early on is the effect of forward and backward bends. Too much forward bending can send me into a trough within the hour. I ALWAYS incorporate several back bends in a practice and I am careful not to overdo forward bends. This definitely works for me. I believe the 'bringing to the surface' is then more controlled over time an so more manageable. The primary series includes a lot of forward bends, especially after you move past the standing poses. Only a very few yoga books/ teachers seem to mention this. I'm so grateful mine did! Hope this helps. All the best Ambrose
Guest guest
Thanks for replying (and the mail!). I actually have not been on the mat for a month now - just can't bring myself to do it as I am associating my recent 'depressive episode' for want of a better way of putting it to something in the practice. ashtanga yoga, "ambrose_gillham" <xjw98@d...> wrote: > keajra_bound > > I have wrestled with mild/ moderate depression for about twenty > years.
