Guest guest
Don't get overwhelmed with information and your own thoughts. The full Primary Series is very tough - not to mention the tough questions that come up when you're reading a lot! Even when you are flexible enough to get into the poses, it requires tremendous mental concentration and energy! You do not have to FORCE yourself to do the entire Primary Series. For most people, it probably isn't a good idea, anyways. It should be fun, not drudgery. If you're not having fun, you're setting yourself up for an injury. And like David Willians says, "If it hurts, you're doing it wrong!" But what a tremendous goal to work toward...the entire Primary Series, flowing with vinyasa! But give yourself permission to work up to it. A big part of the fun of doing Ashtanga for me is that I can't do everything (or for that matter, anything, lol) perfectly! At a training I attended, David Swenson mentioned a student who had said her minimum daily practice was unrolling her mat and standing on it. That was it - if she didn't want to do anything else, she didn't have to, she could step off and roll the mat back up. But that never happened. She always did something, because it made her feel better, and it will make you feel better, too! There's a lot of wisdom in this. You don't have to do everything perfectly every day in yoga or in life, even if you have been doing it for over 2 years! Just do....something.
