Guest guest
Hi Karen I've been doing Ashtanga for about 9 months now, but its only in the last 2 months that I've maintained a 5 day week practice. About 4 weeks ago I discovered that my weight had dropped to below 45kg which shocked me (I'm 5'2") and my partner said i was looking anorexic!. I'm a very healthy eater like you, and also a vegetarian, but not overly obsessed about my diet. Anyway, once I got over the initial shock, I looked at what and when I was eating and started to become more conscious of it. I increased my protein intake and just started eating a lot more than I had been used to. Skipping meals is no longer an option and i'm not avoiding carbs any more (can really enjoy a big bowl of pasta with pesto now!). I've put on a kilo and am now feel stronger and more grounded since I've adapted my food intake to support my practice. The internal fire and heat created by the Ashtanga practice really burns up all your fuel. It may sound really simplistic, but just eat more, perhaps more often, and make sure that it's really high quality food so that it feeds and nourishes your practice. Don't panic. Just be sensitive to what your body needs and respond appropriately to the changes it's going through. namaste karencoolkid <no_reply> wrote: I do drink up to 2 litres or more of water a day. I don't think it's a myth to have to do that, because it definatley keeps me energized the more I drink. I feel more awake by water, than I do coffee or tea. My skin is ten times better by drinking lots of water as well. It does purify your body. About my eating. I do eat a very high protein, low carbo diet. I eat very little sweets or snacks (only on special days) and I'm vegetarian. I have been to a nutritionist before and she said my diet was really good. So I'm losing all this weight but it has nothing to do with my diet. I am a little nervous since at times, I lose 1 kg in a few days, at times in 2 weeks. It is very sporatic. I'm 5"4 or about 163 cm, but now I weigh between 46-47kg or about 105 pounds. I think. I'm not sure if losing more is healthy, but I don't understand why I keep losing it. I do ashtanga yoga 6 days a week and feel so good after, I don't want to stop doing it. Any suggestions? Is it the yoga? ashtanga yoga Greetings Send your love online with Greetings - FREE! Guest guest
Have you checked your blood glucose level lately? To me it seems that there is a possibility that you could have diabetes. The symptoms are tremendous weight loss, lots of drinking and feeling tired, among others. Just to advice you to go to doctor, if you haven't done that allready?? karencoolkid <no_reply> wrote:I do drink up to 2 litres or more of water a day. Guest guest
yes, your diet is good for losing weight, but for the body? I don't think so. And the body is like a car, the more you run it the sooner it will break down. Not in the sense of physical activity, that is necessary (although too much of it is also not good) but in the sense of digesting food or even just drinking water. If your kidneys need to work constantly, (and they do even if you just drink water) then your body doesn't get any rest and that is strenuous on it. I think that drinking appropriate amount of water is absolutely necessary, but we shouldn't just drink and drink all day, if we want it or not. And yes being vegetarian is really good, but eating too much protein is again hard on your digestive system. High protein diets usually cause, bad breath, white tongue buildup, bad body odor, constipation and swelling or "fluffing up". I think everyone should eat what they feel their bodies need, or see that it does good to their bodies. If that is high protein diet, then yes, that is what you should do, but don't think it is good for everyone (certainly didn't do good to my body). About the weight lose: losing weight by dieting one way or other doesn't work, you have to change a life philosophy - something in your character that is causing you to put on weight. Usually a lack of self-respect or self-worth. to that I'll drink, (water of course jana On Monday, February 2, 2004, at 02:00 AM, karencoolkid wrote: > I do drink up to 2 litres or more of water a day. Guest guest
Hey there you need to look not just at the food and diet but the amounts you are eating you are doing a "work out" that will give you the psyiology of a marathon runner so you need to eat accordingly, alot of nutritionalists don't think that yoga is that dynamic! So you need to make sure you are eating sufficiently and see a sports nutritionalist if poss! have a great pratice! james he karencoolkid <no_reply> wrote: I do drink up to 2 litres or more of water a day.
