Guest guest
Hello, A friend that I practice with is about 6 weeks pregnant. She started doing yoga once a week about three months ago. When she found out she was preggo, she ordered a Shiva Rea pre-natal video (because that was the only one that we could find with someone from an Ashtanga background). So here's where I ask for advice. After viewing the video, she has said that she wants to continue her Ashtanga practice for now because the video is too slow and not really a work out for her (she is very athletic and still goes to the gym almost everyday). She doesn't do any inversions or the marichyasanas (twisting). Is there anything else in the sequence that she should avoid (up to navasana)? As far as I know, there are no pre-natal teachers in Japan, so finding a class is not an option. I would love to hear others' experiences! thanks, amanda
Guest guest
Amanda According to your description. I have the opinion that she is to new to ashtanga Yoga to be doing ashtanga and pregnancy, I understand it is a critical time from 0-4 months. Most people that had practice ashtanga during pregnancy has been practicing ashtanga for a long time. My advice is to get in the ashtanga program after the pregnacy. More important have post pregnacy exercise and them move into Ashtanga. (i.e. I personally will not teach her because of the short contact with Ashtanga) During pregnacy there are bigger flexibility in the joins. With abnormal range of flexibility one can have a hard time in learning the practice of yoga. Guest guest
There aren't any astanga teachers in Japan? Any ashtanga teacher should be able to tell you what to not do. ashtanga yoga, "amanda h" <whyqqqqq> wrote: > Hello, > > A friend that I practice with is about 6 weeks pregnant. Guest guest
Not correct. Any ashtanga teacher?!?!? I will fight for this topic. I believe that there are people that have been pregnant and practiced yoga this people will have a great insight and they might or might not be able to teach ashtanga for pregnant. A man or woman that has never been pregnant does not have the insight and knowledge to teach a pregnant woman. Respect nature and understand that your body is having a big change by being pregnant and one should not agrevate and try to change the body according to the ashtanga yoga practice. Guest guest
I think there is a communication problem here. The person who posted before Mr. Liem is not claiming that there are no Ashtanga instructors in Japan nor that a pregnant woman can not do Ashtanga while pregnant. The post is just a flippant way to suggest that Amanda (the first poster) ask an instructor for advice on this subject. (I know I look incredibly anal for posting a reply to someone else's messages but it is so sad when a miscommunication causes bad feelings.) ashtanga yoga, "topofthemountains" <doyoga@a...> wrote: > Not correct. > > Any ashtanga teacher?!?!? > > I will fight for this topic.
