Hi Amanda

Susan Rothlein in Orlando, Florida is a pre and post natal yoga instructor. You

can

check her web site at www.hometown.aol.com/mommayoga/ where there is

information and links to useful literature and videos. You mentioned that

your friend followed a video of natal yoga by Shiva Rea. I attended a

worshop of Shiva Rea, and her background is Ashtanga. I imagine that

the video your friend is following offers sound advice.

pregnancy and Ashtanga

Hello,

A friend that I practice with is about 6 weeks pregnant. She started

doing yoga once a week about three months ago.

When she found out she was preggo, she ordered a Shiva Rea pre-natal

video (because that was the only one that we could find with someone

from an Ashtanga background).

So here's where I ask for advice.

After viewing the video, she has said that she wants to continue her

Ashtanga practice for now because the video is too slow and not

really a work out for her (she is very athletic and still goes to the

gym almost everyday).

She doesn't do any inversions or the marichyasanas (twisting). Is

there anything else in the sequence that she should avoid (up to

navasana)?

As far as I know, there are no pre-natal teachers in Japan, so

finding a class is not an option.

I would love to hear others' experiences!

thanks,

amanda
