Jeff,

I have the same exact problem with sweating a lot and sliding around. I

find that I have to use a lot of climbing chalk and a towel! At the studio I'm

teaching at, some of our rental mats are more of a canvas feeling texture

rather than the rubbery type of sticky mat. These canvas ones are awesome, I

never

slip around on them at all! They have great tracktion and absorb the sweat.

My instructor cant remember where she ordered them, but I think that

www.Bheka.com 's standard mats might be what I'm talking about. I'm currently

waiting

for them to send me a swatch of the material so that I can be sure. I'll let

ya know.

Carrie

I suggest investing in a cotton mysore rug.

I recently began practicing Ashtanga yoga and I need a recommendation

for a good mat. I was using one of my wife's mats and because I sweat

so much the mat became very slippery. Does anyone know of a good mat

for people who sweat heavily?

I've gotten a couple of recommendations already:

The Manduka mat (the black mat from Germany. I'm not sure what this

is made out of or whether it remains sticky when you sweat. It is

quite expensive ranging from $68 to $99 depending on the source.)

The Gaiam Quick-Dry high performance mat (this one is advertised with

densely cushioned moisture-wicking microfiber on one side and sticky

mat on reverse so you don't need to use both a mat and a towel. It

sells for $40).

Any comments or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Carrie,

Thanks for the info. I think you are right about the mat being the

Bheka standard mats. I called the company and talked to a customer

service rep and they said these mats are great for us sweaters. The

advertisement at the site also touts the "non-slip even when

sweating" feature. It's much cheaper than the other mats I was

looking at ($25) and a little longer than most (74"). I ordered one

this morning. Thanks of the help. I appreciate it.

Thanks Heidi,

I'm thinking about getting one of these to go over the Bheka mat I

just ordered.

Jeff -the best mat for heavy sweat-ers is Prana's "Baptiste" Power Yoga mat -it

is available though the Baptiste website www. baptiste. com as well as Prana's.

The reason why it works is because it is a combination of cotton with rubber -so

you have the best of both worlds -the cotton absorbs your sweat and the rubber

keeps the mat from slipping and sliding as much as 100% cotton mysore mats tend

to do. It works for me.

Kind Regards

Maureen
