In regards to videos and dvd's to practice with, I suggest...

Richard Freeman

or

John Scott

These two are long time astanga practitioners and their dvd's would benefit a

new or old yogi.

Following the series on your own is another option always thought.

ashtanga yoga just starting ashtanga..help!

hi all,

i've recently been introduced to ashtanga and i find it really

interesting..however, due to lack of $$ i am unable to go to classes

regularly...

does anyone suggest getting a video or CD or just following the series on my

own??? I've done some hatha yoga in the past but am really looking forward to

deepening my understanding and practise with asthanga...any suggestions?

thanks so much!

Shamira: I highly recommend that you obtain a John Scott DVD or VHS -also his

book "Ashtanga Yoga" is very helpful with guiding you through the primary

series. Richard Freeman's VHS/DVDs are also very good -but I believe that for a

beginner who hasn't been able to train with a teacher. John Scott's DVS/VHS is

the best.

Hope this helps and welcome!

I have truly enjoyed David Swenson's tape of the primary series. I

understand it's now available on DVD as well. Good luck! Ronn

Shamirahudda-

You can find his materials at http://www.ashtanga.net/ . They are the

most challenging workout I've ever seen on tape, but contain steps to

take if you can't quite manage the full extent of a given posture. Well

worth the investment. Ronn

Try a Lululemon store. They usually carry them.

Shamira: I don't believe John Scott has audio cds. I know that David Swenson

does and although I have not heard them, several of my students tell me that

they are quite good. You can get used copies fairly cheaply through Amazon.

Best of luck to you. Also, John Scott's book is extremely helpful (can also

purchase used via Amazon.
