Guest guest
I would be curiouse to know this too.....I too suffer from the same distraction of "mat alignment", not only when my body is not centered, but if my mat moves even a hair to one side of the other..then I tend to feel at an uncomfortable angle...i have done yoga on my wood floors at home and love it...I actually feel like I have more stability, there is no distraction of a mat, but on the other hand, the surface underneath is concrete (its in the basement) and I am aware that the "cold" from underneath can zap heat from the body...even though It doesn't feel cold to the touch especially when I am heated by doing yoga. I look forward to reading others postings concerning this.... It is true that classical yoga does not use mats correct? Vishva Devi
Guest guest
hi there I think practising without a mat is a good idea as long as you have a nice smooth surface to work with. i practice without a mat too sometimes if i am just practising standing positions, it gives me a better feel to the ground and also helps me to learn to be versatile and not be attached to the mat. good luck! I have only been practicing for a little over a year and one thing I have found distracting is my placement on the mat. I am always trying to reposition myself so that my body is in the center of the mat. Other than comfort which I have been able to deal with during the limited few practices I have gone without my mat, do any of you know of a reason this would be a bad idea?
