Guest guest
i am new to ashtanga, but not necessarily to yoga practicing since '98 & am an instructor of hatha... became intrested in ashtanga, but was focusing on the alignment on the mat... just started Ashtanga about a month ago... right now am only able to do Sun Sal. A & Sun Sal. B... that's my practice for now... but I know to keep practicing & all will follow... you know, after reading about not using yoga mats... I thought I don't know... I have become accustomed to the cushion, but I also thought that I had that problem with aligning to the mat as well... so I gave it a go... & I love not using a mat... it's like a sense of freedom I think... the only problem is that it is painfull sometimes... I do have hardwood floors in my home & going from updog to downdog hurts my toes/feet... any suggestions?? thanks, maureen Maureen Lauer Lauer & Associates 407 Lincoln Way Niles, OH 44446 330-544-4952 Photos: High-quality 4x6 digital prints for 25¢
Guest guest
I have a "Mysore" rug that is the same size as a yoga mat, and is thickly woven, so it doesn't stretch. It does slide around a little on my hardwood floors, so I'm looking for a super-thin yoga mat to go under it. But the rug is great, no slipping around. Somehow every mat I've ever had, no matter how celebrated for it's stickiness, just gets slippery when wet. I ordered my rug from www.prana.com pranams, Brianna --- Maureen Lauer <mlauer93 wrote: > > i am new to ashtanga, but not necessarily to yoga > practicing since '98 & am an instructor of hatha... > > became intrested in ashtanga, but was focusing on > the alignment on the mat... just started Ashtanga > about a month ago... right now am only able to do > Sun Sal. Guest guest
suggestions? yes, use a mat. it's there as a convenience. to minimize your risk of injury and to minimize the distraction that occurs when your body makes unpleasant contact with the hard floor. If the alignment of the mat in relation to the lines on the floor is throwing you off, you can either get rid of the mat or get rid of paying attention to the lines. I would say keep the mat, it will protect you from injury and help you learn to let go of your attachment to arbitrary lines of orientation.
