Guest guest
Go to www.ayri.org, the official Web site for the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. Somewhere on the site is a link to a recording of Pattabhi Jois reciting the opening mantra. If that doesn't help, do a Web search for "Ashtanga mantra" or "Ashtanga opening chant." Aside from the one by Patthabhi Jois, there are a few other recorded versions of the chant floating around on the Internet. For a CD version of the chant, I believe Richard Freeman recites it on his Ashtanga CDs, although I'm not sure which one(s). Finally, I'll mention one last option, since I'm sure someone is bound to suggest it to you: Several years ago a little-known one-name female singer whose name begins with the letter M recorded a tune called "Shanti/Ashtangi" on her album Ray of Light. You could also refer to that recording; it might even be one you already own. Good luck.
Guest guest
You can always go to Pattabhi Jois's web site and listen in but his version he chants very quick and really will be if no help for figuring it out. Maybe check Richard Freeman's site though I am not certain that he has an audio version. Maybe also try Yoga Works in L.A. and look up there web site. Good luck with your search. I have yet to learn the opening mantra. I have the text but can't for the life of me figure out how the words are pronounced correctly. Any suggestions on how I can learn this? Thanks!!
