Guest guest
i think the most essential element to opening shoulders is time and practice - lots of it. i've been practicing yoga for 4.5 years and am just now able to clasp my hands behind my back keeping my palms pressed together. my ability to outer rotate my shoulders has increased significantly over the past year. it feels like a minor miracle and i'm amazed at its effect on my breathing pattern. also it makes so many poses so much easier like shoulderstand. just keep practicing practicing practicing and one day something will release and you will be amazed. i'm starting to realize that in yoga you have to think in YEARS! when you see people with amazing practices, they have that practice b/c they've worked very very hard at the practice for years. there's really not a quick fix but it is worth every ounce of effort. good luck! Guest guest
I agree with this. Also, just recently I was at an Ashtanga workshop in Koh Pha-Ngan Thailand with Rolfe. He told me not to do handstands. Said my lower back was really flexible, but shoulders tight. That until I could do backbends with straight arms, to forego the handstand, as it just make your shoulders tighter.
