MANJU JOIS ASHTANGA YOGA WORKSHOP

at Ashtanga Yoga Shala, 295 E. 8th St. at Ave B, Basement Entrance.

www.ashtangayogashala.net

Manju is the first born son of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He practiced

with his

father as a child and was steeped in the Ashtanga tradition through

his

family life.

He has gone on to teach Ashtanga Yoga for over 40 years. He has

toured and

taught throughout India, including at Swami Gitananda's ashram in

Pondicherry, where he introduced the first Americans to Ashtanga

almost 30

years ago.

Manju is trained as an engineer, has studied bodywork, and at the

Sanskrit

College in Mysore. In his travels, he has met and been influenced by

various

yogis and swamis.

He is dedicated to bringing together pranayama, vedic chanting and

asana to

create an authentic devotional yogic practice.

His classes include chanting the names of the asanas, drishtis, and

other

aspects of the practice. He always includes pranayama and vedic

chanting in

each practice session, to bring the asana practice in balance. Greg

Tebb, a

dedicated student, says, "The asana practice opens you up, the

pranayama

purifies and builds the energy, and the vedic chanting pushes that

energy

up."
