Guest guest
Hi Ciara I initially had wrist pain during the first year of ashtanga, which has gone away. It used to occur after certain asanas that required hand balancing. But with time, strenght has increased and the pain has gone away. You may want to look at what else you are doing on a daily basis that can contribute to the pain, not related to yoga. It could be you have a bad position at the keyboard when using the computer. Read into what causes karpal tunnel syndrome when at the computer, and that may be the source of your problem, not yoga. I've always had wrist pain whilst practicing but just recently found out I have arthritis in both wrists...I'm only 25. I was just wondering did anyone ever come across someone with a similar problem and how did they tackle it. thanks in advance Ciara
Guest guest
I have a wrist problem too. I used to practice with all the fingers spread wide apart in Adho Mukha Svanasana and other arm balances. My teacher corrected this and recommended keeping the fingers (especially the index and thumb) more close together. "Close" does not mean removing all the gap between the fingers. Find the right spot between opening up the fingers wide apart and sticking together. I never had any wrist issues after this. You have to remember to keep the fingers at an optimal distance every time you use your arms. Ofcourse, work on strengthening your arms/wrists and look at your computer desk ergonomics.
