Guest guest
Are you into other workout like running etc? If so, you need to keep stretching through them. Never push through any asanas. That's just not the way to do it. While bending forward, stop at the point when you feel a good stretch (good stretch does not mean pain!!!). You should always inch your way through without any pain. Bending your knees in a standing forward bend helps you to take your focus off the butt and straightens the back. > > > I am 48yo male and I startd classes in April this > year and I was > wondering if there is anything that I can do to help > with my > flexability. Guest guest
hello, jim i have the same problem, my lower back is at times tight. what i usually try to do on an ongoing basis is to have a slight bend in my knees. a micro bend if you will! if you still experience that soreness then maybe you should try a diliberate bending of the knees, this should take preasure off you back. it will keep it much longer and straighter as well! work at your own pace and always, please always listen to your body. work mindfully and all will come! It seems that as classes go on I lose flexablity not gain? Also in class when we are doing the different poses my lower back seems to lock up and when I fold in half it is painful but I push through it. Throughout class I focucs on my butt trying to force it to stay relaxed and try to make my stomach and legs do the work. Any help would be a blessing. Thanks Jim ashtanga yoga Post your free ad now! Guest guest
regarding the flexibility, if you are trying to do too much at once, the body starts resisting and the muscles are still sore from before which leads into seemingly lesser flexibility. the best way to treat this is to take a few days off, maybe even a week and then do the practice again. It always helps your flexibility to have a few days between the practice. Hot salty baths also help a lot regarding your stiff lower back, I have the same problem and I am 40. My back starts off fine but sometime in the middle of the practice, usually right after the paschimottanasanas it starts hurting. I now got used to it and just take it easy on vinyasas - doing cobra instead of urdhva muka svanasana and relaxing the back as much as I can in adho muka svanasana. It really helps to twist it really good in marichiasana C and D, try that and see what happens. The things you are doing to improve the situation are correct and just keep on using those muscles to protect the back, otherwise it is good to accept the fact that your weak point is your back, (just like some people have knees, ankles, hips, neck, shoulders problems) and that you will have to pay this extra attention to it (as do I someone once said that my problem is in the alignment of my vertebrae, and that's why I feel better when I do the twisting poses. good luck with practicing and take it easy, jana On 10/10/04 2:06 PM, "Jim" <j1369k wrote: > > > > I am 48yo male and I startd classes in April this year and I was > wondering if there is anything that I can do to help with my > flexability.
