Guest guest
Your question "is that OK in Ashtanga"...the answer is definitively no. Ashtanga is a scientific system which involves practicing asanas in a specific order for the purpose of eventually attaining samadhi, or what some people refer to as enlightenment. It is (as far as I know) widely believed among practitioners of yoga, not just Ashtanga yoga, that the purpose of practicing yoga asanas is to be able to sit in lotus and meditate, to obtain the "ceasation of the fluctuations of the mind". This is at least what I have been taught over the years. Ashtanga is very specific as to the order of asanas, and while power yoga may have its place, if you wish to practice Ashtanga, then I would recommend checking out the following web sites. The first one is the official website of Sri K Pattabhii Jois, the living founder of Ashtanga yoga, which will provide you with a background on Ashtanga as well as other resources and links. The second is a widely used site among practitioners which lists all certified and authorized Ashtanga yoga teachers all over the globe, as well as resources and other web links. Check them both out - I think it will answer a lot of your questions... www.ayri.org www.ashtanga.com I hope that this helps in your journey. As for more personal advise, Ashtanga has been a wonderful tool in my own personal journey on this earth, and has allowed me to grow beyond what I thought possible. I would highly recommend it. As Guruji says, the only man who cannot do Ashtanga is a lazy man! Namaste... --- yogione <yogi0101010 wrote: > > > If I do all the standing poses then move to > Backbends immediately is that OK in Ashtanga ? Guest guest
as far as i am cocerned,'power yoga' is not 'ASHTAN' There is a reason the asans are taught in that specific sequence! Each asana is a preparation for the following one. Guruji does not teach it that way and nor do most of the students that were taght by him! just my 2 cents, Dean.
