Guest guest
When we were in Mysore, we decided to continue our studies with B.N.S. Iyengar. He has practiced yoga for over 60 years, studying under T. Krishnamacharya in the 1950's. He has been teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for the last 17 years, has vast knowledge of Yoga Philosophy, and is able to share the theory behind the practice, and the deeper, more spiritual aspects of Yoga. Classes are offered in Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Kriya, and Meditation. And you may receive a lesson in Yoga Philosophy at any time while studying with Mr. Iyengar. When we were there classes were held from 6 am to 9 am, and from 4 pm to 7 pm except moon days. If you are interested take a rickshaw and inquire at the Sri Bramatantra Swatantra Parakala Mutt Yoga near Jagan Mohan Palace We paid $100.00 per month. You will usually meet people that can tell you more about other teachers like Sheshandree, places to eat like The Three Sisters. And shared, inexpensive lodging. And yes, you should be able to learn the primary series in just one month. We stayed in the heart of the city. One month at Chandra Palace Hotel. One month at Bombay Hotel, which I liked better, it was quiet. These places were conveniently located, not very expensive, and clean. We were able to walk to the Shala, the market, and a lot of other places. Most of the people in Mysore are vegetarians. While I love Indian food, the veggies are cooked to death. After a couple of weeks, especially with a practice like Ashtanga, I found my energy running low. So at least once a week we took advantage of the buffet at the Southern Star Restaurant at the Quality Inn for the salads. There is a lot to do in and around the city. Also some incredible places to visit for the afternoon. Or when you have a moon day and have the advantage of an extra day take the public bus to places like the Tibetan Settlement in Bylakuppe. If you are interested I am happy to share more. Just reply directly to me at the email address below. Otherwise Good Luck. And Have Fun. It is quite an experience.
