Guest guest
Hi All I was wondering about your experience with Bakasana. I've just begun to become sufficiently balanced and my legs can lift higher on my arms. But I noticed that when I breathe during the position, I lose the balance. Today I kept the breathing more shallow, without expanding the chest while breathing, while my legs were up in the position. I did not lose the balance. For you that are more experience or successful in this position, do you find that having shallow/quiet breathing helps in maintaining the position? Guest guest
While I don't have that particular problem in that asana, I have always been advised not to sacrifice proper full uijayi breath to achieve a posture. I believe Swenson says that quite directly on his Primary Series DVD as well, he reminds again and again that the practice is first a breathing exercise. I can certainly see that shallow breathing might make many asanas easier to achieve but I don't think that is the suggested Ashtanga direction.
