Guest guest
HI THERE. I HAVE BEEN PRACTICING POWER/VINYASA STYLE YOGA FOR ABOUT EIGHTEEN MONTHS, ORIGINALLY WITH THE INTENT OF BECOMING A STUDENT OF ASHTANGA. I LIVE IN MILWAUKEE, WI AND THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO "REAL" ASHTANGA TEACHERS IN THE AREA. (ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME VERY GIFTED ONES!!) I HAVE A GREAT DEAL FURTHER TO GO ON MY YOGA JOURNEY. MY FLEXIBILITY AND STRENGTH DO NOT ALLOW ME TO JUST "DO" THE POSES IN THE PRIMARY SERIES. SO. . ..ARE THERE ANY SUGGESTIONS OF WHERE TO BEGIN?? HOW TO BUILD STRENGTH, INCREASE FLEXIBILITY (OH THOSE HIPS! THAT GROIN!) WITHOUT A TEACHER??? ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS. Guest guest
Hi, Get a DVD or video of the primary series (Swenson, Miller, Doane to name a few,) And do the primary series exactly as described. When you get to a point where you can not do a posture STOP! Surya A+B will warm you up and build strength. Each asana in Ashtanga is the perfect precursor to the next. It works I promise! That said, You will really need to find a teacher to adjust you and move you through your stopping point. Even if you can only meet once a week it is vitally important. Good luck, Judy
Guest guest
First, take the caps-lock off. Second, seek out and find your teacher. There will be no progress without the teacher. Open yourself to this and the teacher will come. ashtanga yoga, "makeupdoll2003" <makeupdoll2003> wrote: > > > HI THERE. > I HAVE BEEN PRACTICING POWER/VINYASA STYLE YOGA FOR ABOUT > EIGHTEEN MONTHS, ORIGINALLY WITH THE INTENT OF BECOMING A > STUDENT OF ASHTANGA. > I LIVE IN MILWAUKEE, WI AND THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO "REAL" > ASHTANGA TEACHERS IN THE AREA.
