Namaste' Heather,

Your yoga practice will help/enhance anything else you

do. Anything else you do will not enhance your yoga

practice. If you love running, like I did before I

destroyed my knees, keep it up. Everyone must do what

is right for them. But let your yoga practice be your

foundation. As it will truly enhance anything else you

do. Like keeping you flexible, strong and balanced.

Blessings,

Hello,

While it's definitely not necessary to do any other

exercise alongside Astanga, I also like the variety of

running, swimming, cycling, etc. You can tend to lose

flexibility if you don't finish your training with a

good streching session, however the solution I've

found is to run barefooted, which really stretches the

backs of your legs, and doesn't seem to tighten the

hamstrings so much.

See wwww.runnningbarefoot.com

I also see it as being more in tune with Astanga,

having your barefeet touching the ground, and running

with gentle ball-heel-ball foot movements rather

thudding your heels on the floor as you do with

trainers.
