Maybe then you should try resting your palms on the

calves until you are flexible enough.

I know what you mean. There is a spot on the thigh

where it does not hurt. You will need to explore it on

your own.

Sounds like your foot is not up high toward the groin As your hip opens the

little toe side of your foot should be touching the groin and heel pressing into

ab muscles and toes only over the outside of the hip. as you get deeper into

half lotus the top of the foot is not pressing into the thigh as much. In the

meantime, if you are folding forward in the asana, back off a little.

ashtanga yoga hurts

When I do poses that require me to grab my big toe I can't handle the

pull of my fingers on the toe. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm

hoping as my flexibility increases it will be less of an issue.

Also, when I do poses that require my foot to rest on my thight (right

foot on left thigh or vice versa) like in Ardha Baddha Padma

Paschimottanasana, I feel a lot of pain where my foot presses on my

thigh. The pain is on the top of my thigh not my foot.

Any input?

I'f I was my a doctor and someone came to me and said 'When I press my

food onto my thigh with a lot of pressure it hurts', I'd probably say,

'Don't press your foot onto your thigh with a lot of pressure then'.

Or the same for my big toe and pulling.

I'm just tring to say, I don't think this is a medical problem, I

would expect to feel pain if I pulled on my toe or pushed hard on my

thigh. I'm just curios to find out if you guys maybe can recommend

something.

Maybe I'm pushing too hard and need to loosen up first or maybe I just

need to toughen up.

HI John

I know the feeling of having problems grapping my toes. This will go away as you

improve your practice and your flexibility. But remember that the forward bends

do not come from pulling you forward by your arms - but comes from keeping you

bahnda and do a forward twist in your pelvic.

Your pain in your foot when you do the ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana is

caused by at tightness in your hip joint. This will go away as you get more

flexibility in the hip.

Do your pactice and everything are coming

pain is not part of any yoga practice. soreness, tightness ok but not

pain....try backing off a bit and take it from there.

yes I have had this in my toes and heels. This will

go away over time with continued practice. The pain

is from built up toxins, tightness and scar tissue.

Yoga helps to move fresh blood into these areas

allowing healing and over time the pain will diminish.

At one point in my practice, I could not put my heals

down not even on a mat as they were so tender. Try

keeping your heels off the floor in a forward bend!

Good luck!!

You don't think the pain could be simple related to pulling my toe

too hard as opposed to toxins?

I mean I'd assume if I where to pull my toe it would hurt. I was just

wondering if people get used to it, strengthen the toe, or just simple

tolerate it.

I appreciate all the responses but (this is just my opionion) it seems

wierd to think that I need to see a doctor or have some toxic build up

because it feels uncomfortable to pick up my leg by one toe. I would

assume the cause of the pain isn't a medical condition but simply the

fact that it hurts when I have my toe pulled.

Hi John

I do not think you need to see a doctor because you have pain in your toe due to

yoga. Sorry - but I think the doctor would laugh. My advice is get the technique

right - and do your practice - and you will see the pain will go away.
