Guest guest
Ok, Procrastination is just a symptom NOT the problem - just like laziness or boredom. The following FEELINGS make contribute to this Problem.. -Intimidation -Self Worth -Fear Tell me, what overall belief would someone have to have about themselves in order to experience the above FEELINGS? ashtanga yoga [ashtangayoga] On Behalf Of shamirahudda 28 October 2005 02:25 ashtanga yoga ashtanga yoga yoga fear..? hi there, its been a long time since i visited the group... i have a question for everyone, or advice to ask... i have been interested in yoga for about 3-4 years now, esp. ashtanga... i had got book, dvds, cds etc...and when i do do yoga, i feel great, my day completely changes... but here is the problem: i don't know why for the life of me, but i procrastinate doing yoga... does that make any sense?? i mean, i set goals, promise myself, remind myself how much i enjoy it..but i feel a little intimidated going to a class (i don't knwo why, im pretty fit and i know that its not about doign it 'right') and to do it at home, im either lazy or just mega procrastinating..perhaps i don't think deep down that i deserve such peace of mind..i have no idea...anyone have any ideas? i really want to start developing myself with yoga and eventually i hope to be a teacher...but how on earth will i achieve those things if i fear starting it? do i fear success??? or failure?? help.. sh
Guest guest
How can you aspire to BE a teacher when you don't even HAVE a teacher? ....book, dvds, cds etc. are no substitue for an authentic teacher. > > > > > ashtanga yoga [ashtangayoga] > On Behalf Of shamirahudda > 28 October 2005 02:25 > ashtanga yoga > ashtanga yoga yoga fear..? > > > > hi there, > its been a long time since i visited the group... i have a question for > everyone, or advice to ask... i have been interested in yoga for about > 3-4 years now, esp. ashtanga... i had got book, dvds, cds etc...and > when i do do yoga, i feel great, my day completely changes... but here > is the problem: i don't know why for the life of me, but i > procrastinate doing yoga... does that make any sense?? i mean, i set > goals, promise myself, remind myself how much i enjoy it..but i feel a > little intimidated going to a class (i don't knwo why, im pretty fit > and i know that its not about doign it 'right') and to do it at home, > im either lazy or just mega procrastinating..perhaps i don't think deep > down that i deserve such peace of mind..i have no idea...anyone have > any ideas? i really want to start developing myself with yoga and > eventually i hope to be a teacher...but how on earth will i achieve > those things if i fear starting it? do i fear success??? or failure?? > help.. > sh >

Guest guest
No need to be nasty. Yes, sometimes people goal a little too far ahead of themselves, but don't we all at some point?!??! Why can't we just be kind and supportive to others without judgement and unkindness? Let each person go through their learning process?? Guest guest
I'm currently working towards my teaching certification. It took years to build up the self esteem to finally take the plunge. The last few months of study have been rewarding beyond compare. Learning about the many interesting ideas behind and beyond the physical practice have brought me a wonderful sence of peace and belonging. Don't be afraid to do the things that make you feel good or that feel right. You don't HAVE to go to a class or HAVE a teacher - you only need to listen to your body and your inner voice to know that yoga is something you are meant to do. I think you already know it too. Practice, read and learn what you can, when the time is right you'll find a way to make your teaching dreams happen. Best of luck to you. Guest guest
I live in Hong Kong and I have been able to find someone who'd studied directly under Guruji - either certified or authorized... Sharath even was here for a week to lead an Intensive Ashtanga Workshop...what we're really after is the practice right? I do agree that books, DVDs, CDs are not sufficient, Just challenge yourself to make the BIG first step ~ PRACTICE!

Guest guest
Hi Shamira, I lived in Toronto for 10 years, almost 10 years ago and that is where I started yoga. My teacher was Ron Reid from the Downward Dog studio. I hosted him and his partner, Marla, here in Paris a couple of months ago for a weekend workshop. He is a great teacher and I highly recommend him! When I lived in Toronto he didn't have the Downward Dog studio, which he opened with Diane Bruni (another very good teacher!), but I assume that most of the teachers they would work with would be good. Ron has an amazing asana practice but he is also a nice person and very respectful of the students in that he lets everyone progress at their own pace without pushing too hard. Anyway, I could go on and on about his teaching, if you have a chance or the desire, try a class. Good luck!
